A secretive smile had tugged at Charles' lips since he'd received Cyclops' urgent call. He always strove to keep from reading his students' thoughts, but Scott had been so excited when he'd called him that Charles had seen straight through his deceit. Of course, Wolverine's whispered growl to unbunch his undies when Scott had began to squirm had not helped his students' cause in the least.
Charles arrived at Harry's to find all his X-Men awaiting him. Their voices thundered out in unison, "SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
His heart swelled with joy, and for a change, Charles found himself able to crack a rare joke. As his loving students applauded him, he faced Scott with a serious expression and queried, "This is what you had your undies in a bunch for?" The crowd went wild with laughter as Charles performed air quotes.
When the chuckles began to die down, Hank rumbled, "I doth believe our Professor doth have a sense of humor, after all."
"Den let's get dis party started!" Gambit called out from the back, and Bobby started the music.
Charles looked up in shock, his face steadily becoming red, as Jean wheeled in a huge cake. "My students -- " he began but stopped as the cake opened and out danced the man of his dreams.
Charles sat in shock, unable to believe his eyes, as the great Magneto danced before him. He didn't think his beloved would ever lower himself to such a level, or that his X-Men would allow him to celebrate with them. He sat back, beaming, and gave himself up to the enjoyment of the moment. The dance might have been ridiculous, juvenile, and utterly uncharacteristic, but his family had given him what he truly wanted: the love of his life and his family together again at last!
The End
